Meet your photographer · Rochester, NY
I believe the earliest days of new parenthood are sacred, tender, and far too fleeting to be rushed or forced.
I'm Niesha Johnson, the founder and lead portrait artist at Little Fern Studio in Rochester, New York. For years, I have dedicated my craft exclusively to expectant mothers and brand-new babies, creating quiet, organic imagery that preserves this extraordinary threshold of life.
My philosophy is grounded in a baby-led, unhurried pace. We never force unnatural poses, prop babies in rigid contortions, or watch the clock. If your baby needs thirty minutes to nurse and settle, we pause. If they need to be cradled against your chest, we photograph that gentle embrace.
Above all else, safety and infant physiology guide every moment in our studio. From certified newborn posing standards to hospital-grade sanitization and warm 77° climate regulation, every touch is designed so you and your newborn feel utterly safe, supported, and relaxed.

Safety, Comfort & Peace of Mind
Bringing a one-week-old baby into a studio requires immense trust. Here is the unwavering standard we uphold for every Rochester family who walks through our doors.
Specialized training in newborn physiological support, airway safety, and anatomical circulation. We never place a baby in an unsupported or hazardous pose.
The studio is maintained at a soothing 76°F–78°F with gentle white noise, keeping unclothed babies warm, deeply settled, and dreaming peacefully.
All organic wraps, swaddles, and knits are laundered in fragrance-free, hypoallergenic detergent after every single session. Hands are sanitized continuously.
We only schedule a single newborn session per day. You never have to rush, wait in a hallway, or feel like your session is being cut short.
The Session Journey
From the moment you arrive in Rochester, our studio becomes your haven of quiet and ease.
Kick off your shoes and sink into our comfortable nursing lounge. We’ll offer hot coffee or soothing tea while Niesha gently gets acquainted with your baby and explains the gentle morning rhythm.
Soft window light, organic textured wraps, and quiet moments. Whenever baby needs a top-off feed, a diaper change, or a cuddle, we pause effortlessly. We capture both solo newborn portraits and tender parent embraces.
Your curated digital gallery is delivered, accompanied by guidance on creating custom archival framing, velvet albums, and fine-art prints designed to withstand generations.
Niesha made our first family session feel like a deep, calming exhale. With a six-day-old newborn and an energetic toddler, we were terrified things would be chaotic. Niesha’s warmth washed over the entire room. She knew how to soothe our baby instantly, and the framed portraits on our wall now bring tears of joy to my eyes every day.
A personal note
The transition into parenthood is one of the bravest, most tender things you will ever experience. In the middle of nursery prep, physical recovery, and the whirlwind of doctor visits, it is so easy for the blur of these earliest weeks to slip past unnoticed.
Years from now, when the midnight feeds are distant memories and your baby is walking, speaking, and growing into their own person, these portraits will be the tangible proof of how small they once were, and how deeply they were loved from the very first hour.
It would be my absolute honor to welcome your family into the studio and preserve this chapter for you.
